Sheshi, a duet between choreographer and interdisciplinary artist lily gold and her mother Sheri Gold, is a playful approach to transmuting intergenerational trauma through dance. While Sheshi rekindles reverence for elders, it embraces back-handed humor, coaxes aggression out of exile and traverses varying shades of honesty. Attuning their bodies toward ancestral resilience, their scores are transparent with tensions, offering their intimacies for resonance. Sheshi features sound design by artist dani derks, lighting by opal ingle, performances from both designers and surprise guest performers.

Bios
lily gold is a white, queer, chronically ill, fourth-generation new yorker of the anti-zionist jewish diaspora, making dance and interdisciplinary art. using improvisatory methods to generate movement, text and song—the material collides, tears, weaves and unravels into performance. absurdly specific and playful with mess, gold’s work attempts to answer probing questions and embraces contradictory truths with reverent irreverence. perhaps maximal in subtle disguise, their dances are dynamic worlds within which the audience is tossed a raft to float the rivers of their emotion. gold’s choreographic and visual work has been presented by Danspace Project, First Street Gallery, MoMA/Judson Memorial Church, and Movement Research, among others. She has been an Artist in Residence at Movement Research, AUNTS, ZIL Cultural Center, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, CEC ArtsLink, Bushel Collective, Pillow Fort Arts, and a spacegrant recipient at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. as a performer she has collaborated with Faye Driscoll, devynn emory, Andrea Geyer, Larissa Velez-Jackson, Okwui Okpokwasili and Peter Born, Tere O’Connor, Vicky Shick, and Walter Dundervill, among others. gold is a trauma-informed somatic therapist, officiant, witch and organizer—accountable to larger liberatory movements within and beyond creative practice. they live among occupied lands of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy in Walton, NY, and remain in relationship with their community and performance home in NYC.

Sheri Gold finds satisfaction and inspiration in her work as a psychotherapist, caring for her plants and home, practicing Latin dance, and deepening connection with friends and family. She lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY with her husband, Robert, a loving source of support and admiration.

dani derksis part of the day-to-day operations at monome in upstate NY and a member of the extended universe of whimsical raps -- dani assembles instruments and creates documentation for ways to engage with them. Their personal projects are centered on coding through improvisation, creating their own environments for playful and exploratory music performance gestures.

opal ingle is a trans artist and the founder of Opal’s Flowers, a small flower farm project growing on a parcel of land called Velvethorn Kinship in Walton, NY. Their aim is to participate in regenerative growing practices and be a responsible steward of the land, in community. Some of their current creative practices involve communing with trees, growing and arranging flowers and writing queer speculative fiction. as a performer they have collaborated with Heather Kravas, Tere O'Connor, Neil Greenberg, among others.
