about morning class/

morning class is a highly imaginative + highly physical investigation of ourselves as movers. Together, we cultivate a space for building curiosity, community, care and rigor by embracing experimentation, kindness and the joy of movement. This is a laboratory: risk and failure are encouraged, as they are part of the learning process. We work from the body we bring each day, and we are invited to call upon all the techniques and herstories/theystories/histories that our bodies hold. Class begins with a sensation-based collage of improvisation, somatics and set sequences rooted in the technical fundamentals of euro-american release technique and postmodern dance. We follow impulses that lie just beneath the surface of the skin and deep inside our bones. We might engage in consent-based partner stretches and small group improvisation exercises. Class culminates with a set-ish phrase that encourages cultivating individual choicemaking and artistry within the material.

i consider class both a functional and sacred practice. I adore the magic that is created when people come together for the sake of attending to our bodies and creativities. It feels inherently radical- learning, working, building community, sharing practice with no product or end in mind other than the here and now of showing up. Please come get what you need, please ask for what you need. All levels are welcome, however please note that this class is structured for movers & dance artists with a regular physical practice.
