Somatics for Movers is a space to be with who you are, collapsing time with who you have been and might be, experiencing, imagining, witnessing. The heart of this workshop is a verbally guided somatic movement exploration: an extended, meditative improvisation shaped by felt sense, imagery, and internal cues. Each person moves at their own pace, following their unique range of motion and inner experience. We draw from developmental movement patterns, both pre-birth and post-birth, exploring the early states, patterns and capacities that continue to live in our bodies. Many of us need support in order to let go and dive into our/bodies, our/selves. For some folks there may be a therapeutic element. You might remember, you might spend time in an altered state somewhere between waking and sleeping, you might go someplace you’ve never been before.
This one day workshop is accessible to adults with or without prior movement training. There are no set shapes, actions or choreography. Dancer, performer, choreographer people are welcome, as are teachers, parents, body workers, therapists, art makers, writers, and folks who hold space for others. Individuals living with chronic pain or recovering from injury are welcome, as are pregnant folks.
